Hello everyone! Recently i bought baitcaster and like it so far. 

Had a lot of practice with 0.28 mono hight quality line and do not have any backlashes at all. 

Only one bad point - my casting distance, it's pretty short with any kind of baitcaster setting and might be summ of short rod, bad aerodynamics of 9gram lures (Daiwa Penauts II), and my experience/technique. (With a 1/2oz it's a different story, casts pretty far)

Time to time it feels as a critical issue, because i am fishing from bank at different rivers wide. 

After reading older topic here, a lot of people noticed that braid cast further and, due to minimal/no stretch, offers higher sentsativity. 
Do you recommend to use a mono/fluro leader for it? Right now i am thinking to use it only if i fishing at the mountain type rivers with a lot of stones/shallow parts. 

Overall is it good idea to give try to the braid line for crankbaits? (Have also one jig in my arsenal)

 

My setup:

- Shimano Bass One 6'2 ML regular action rod

- Shimano SLX MGL 70

- Mono line: Sanyo nylon line GTR ULTRA 12lb (0.28mm)
- Braid line what i bough, but still on delivery: YGK G-soul X8 UPGRADE - 30lb (0.20mm)

 

 

   It is good to experiment. That's how we learn.

   Don't expect your results to be the same as another fisherman's results. Everyone is a little different. Trust what you see in front of you.

Braided line has the wonderful attributes you spoke of, and I don't think that it causes issues with line shyness for the bass with crankbaits, although I'm not a bass and you can never be too sure.  With crankbaits, I'm not always looking for sensitivity or low stretch, the bait's constant wobbling and deflecting off what's on the bottom can either 'put you to sleep', or encourage hooksets on cues that aren't fish.  Some crankbaits have front trebles that can get easily tangled in a line as limp as braid during the cast.  So for me, I use mono.  But in your case, especially if you don't have a dedicated crankbait rod/reel, braid may be the best for your setup.  I envy you for being able to fish some mountain rivers right now, and I hope that you're getting to enjoy every excursion.
