Upgrade costs (install costs)

Featured Replies

I gotta get a few things installed on my boat pretty soon and was wondering what kind of cost I was looking at having a "pro" do it.....I dont want to do it myself because i know me,  i'll ruin something....I could ask some friends for help but again, I want it done right and done neatly....I need a new trolling motor installed (bow mount),  gonna have a fish finder put up front and i need a new bilge pump put in (i honestly cant even get the old one out!) and maybe get the motor tuned (this will be my first full season with the boat, so if there is anything else i need checked out ? - its a 97 tracker with 40hp)

The trolling motor is not a prob.  there should be a plate w/ screws that have the trim and tilt buttons up at the bow.  Take the plate off and reach under and find the bolts and nuts that keep the trolling motor on.  With a buddy, reach under w/ a wrench and place it over the nut and have your friend loosen the bolt.  Do this to all of them.  Then hopefully your installing the same trolling motor brand, line up the holes and put the bolts in, put the nut on and tighten.

The bilge and the tuning of the engine, a marine shop will charge you atleast $70 an hour and I would say it'll take 2-3hrs.

yea, i figured if anything i would install the trolling motor since I already removed the old one a few months ago. That was a frigging nightmare! all the rubberized bolts underneith stripped...>Working on them the screws then stripped and needed to be drilled out, uhg

thats what happens when i do stuff  ;D

I am like you and will only do minor things. There are some things that are just to much of a pain and it is nice, if something goes wrong or does not work, to be able to say "fix it"

I am taking in my Tracker Monday for an auxillary cigarette lighter and a depth finder to be mounted on the bow. they gave me an estimate of around 200.

Sure beats running the wires myself. The labor at the marine place is $100 per hour.

I have done some work on my motorcycle and let me tell you there are some things that are worth every penny to have others do

$100 an hour is a pretty standard ballpark.  You'll need to call around to get an estimate and make it quick, the boat dealerships get really busy this time of year.

Unless you are totally against doing it, it is going to cost you. If you can change the spark plugs in your car, you can do all of those jobs. Just take your time, they are not as complicated as you think.
