Fuse for 12v trolling motor

Featured Replies

I just picked up a used basstender and the fuse holders are missing.  I'm going to pick up some new holders on ebay, but I don't know what size fuse to put on the auxillary switch that powers the trolling motor.  Does anyone know?

If you are going to the trouble of replacing fuse holders, think about doing it right and putting in a circuit breaker.  Apart from having to carry spare fuses, the advantages are you can easily disable the motor and get going after an accidental short.  Typically you will need a 50 amp DC circuit breaker.

Thanks Anne-Marie.  It's just a small plastic boat so I'm not going to go all the way with the breakers.  I can get 10 fuse holders for $4.25.  They should last the life of the boat.  I'll see if I can find a 50 amp fuse, but I was hoping 20 or 30 amps would do the trick.

I got a 50 AMP in line circuit breaker from ebay for just over 5$ shipped. And no need to buy fuses or replace it. They are fairly common as they are used in marine applications as well as in golf carts and electric scooters/wheelchairs.

Go to the car stereo section of your local box store or stereo shop.  They will have 50 amp fuse blocks and fuses.
