Hey there, I recently just purchased a 'Nitro bass boat with a '95 115hp Mercury. Not knowing what type of oil the previous owner ran, and was wondering if I can Use the Mercury Synthetic stuff. Thanks,Shane

Shane..

I use quicksilver TCW3 oil. It is a gray bottle and I buy it from Gander Mountain.

I have the same boat you have, I don't like using synthetic oil in ANYthing that I own. That is just my personal preference. After all I do have the same boat/motor as you and **knock on wood** My boat hasn't failed me yet because of the oil.

Yes, you can use the synthetic oil.  However, just to be safe, drain as much as the old oil out and then put the synthetic in.  Some oils don't mix well especially if you switch from a mineral base to synthetic.  QuickSilver also makes their oil ( QuickSilver is made by Mercury) in a synthetic version.  Also, make sure your not using the DFI OPTIMAX oil in it, this oil is for use in Direct Fuel Injection motors only.  Mercury does make the Premium blend  which is a synthetic and mineral base blended together which can be used in any outboard.  If you have any doubt ask your local marine dealer.
