Baitcaster around or under 250?

Featured Replies

Hi, I am a angler who has fished with a spinning reel always and am looking for a first baitcaster. I saw that for a quality combo it would maybe be around 250. Could you give me a recommendation for a good all around fishing off a dock baitcasting combo?

I went through the same thing you are about a year ago. I got several Daiwa reels and rods and have been extremely happy. If you get only one, I would suggest the following. A Daiwa Tatula SV reel and a Daiwa Tatula bass rod 7'1 (TTU711MHXB) or 7'3 (TTU731MHFB).

For the reel I would suggest a Lews speed spool LFS ($99) or a Lew’s tournament MP LFS $149 with a Lew’s TP1 Black ($129) or Lew’s Custom Speed stick ($149).   I believe you’ll be pleased with the value the Lew’s brand offers in one of those combinations at that price point.
