probably a stupid question

Featured Replies

so this is probably a stupid question but its all new to me and im learning as i go. i have a helix 10 msi plus g3n with a transom transducer, nothing has been mounted as of yet and was planning on just mounting on the console of my 16ft bass boat and spinning it when up front. however now i learned of linking up the units and thought of this. not sure if this could even be done or what is best.

can i have the transducer for the helix 10 installed on the transom, mount the helix 10 on the bow. then just purchase a helix 7 g3n chirp with the appropriate cables and mount that on the console. or am i just wasting money and leave it on the console and spin it while im up front?

thanks

I have lowrance, but they both work more or less the same. My setup it an Elite 9ti2 at the console, and an elite 9 ti at the bow. I have a chirp/down imaging transducer up front on the trolling motor and a transducer on the transom. I also have an Point-1, Gps/heading sensor. I use that when graphing to have accurate waypoints. Up front I use the heading sensor from it so I know which way I am facing when casting to waypoints easier, but the internal gps of the unit so I have accuracy when approaching marks.

This is how I have it setup now, but it can definitely be done with a single unit also.

The main problem you run into using the Sonar at the bow with the Xducer on the transom is the distance between them.  In shallow water, when moving forward, you are not seeing what's under you are seeing what you just went over.

In deeper water and trying to fish structure, again, everything you see is behind you, not directly below you where you want to work you lure.

Basically, it gives you a depth finder and sonar that lets you see what you just missed.
