tandem spinner baits

Featured Replies

been out of bass fishing, i have 30yr old baitcasters, so i get back into bass fishing and get rid of all my pistol grip baitcaster rods and get new rods and reels. yesterday spent some time spinnerbait fishing using a 3/8oz tandem with sort of large colorado blades, it seems kind of hard to reel this lure in, the ratio is 7.3 to 1, i am thinking of going back to my ryobi ad 4000 with a 5.2 to 1. anyone been down this road.

How big are the colorado blades? The retrieve should have slightly more resistance, but it should not be overwhelming. I throw a size 5 colorado blade on a 7:1 reel and it feels ok to me. It wouldn't hurt to try your slower ratio caster and see how it feels.

I usually throw my spinnerbaits on a 5.2:1 or 5.5:1 gear ratio reel. More torque to move the spinnerbait. Way less resistance.
