Triton Owners or former Triton Owners please respond

I currently have a 1990 201 Champion with a 200 Merc, and I love the boat, the ride is smooth, it runs great but the interior is in pretty bad shape, besides that its just old so the wife said I could get a newer boat.

I'm looking at purchasing a used Triton, 2000 TR22 that recently has had its motor gone through to the tune of about $2,500.00 and according to a mechanic its in great shape with no issues. The gel coat looks great and there appears to be nothing wrong with the boat.

Another nice thing is the colors match my truck so it would look great together! I know, thats a little vain of me but oh well, such is life huh?

Now my question, what do or did you love about your Triton and what do or did you hate about it? Are there things I should be aware of, quirks, common issues, etc?

If you dont have personal experience with Tritions I would prefer you not to just bash it just because you may think your boat is better.

Thanks All, I appreciate any feedback

I guess you if you read enough you'll find that every boat and every car out there is the worst in the world and , oh yeah, the best! Opinions are what they are. I have seen a lot of the pros and cons about Triton and so far mine has been great. I agree with the one thing all Triton owners have mentioned about learning to drive the boat. Other than that I haven't had any complaints about my 08' 18X2. I love it! It's a great fishing platform and performs wonderfully! My only concern in your case is the work on the outboard. I would be cautious there and reluctant to spend my money on a nice boat like that only to potentially have problems that not only ruin fishing trips but get into your wallet. As much as I've looked at boats I know there are enough of nice ones out there that haven't been worked on to that extent and one's you can be proud and confident to own. Of course, that's my opinion. Good luck with your new boat and enjoy it. I had a Champion too, I loved that boat! I didn't love the Johnson GT150 on the back but loved the boat...handled rough water better than most.

Driving it will be different than your Champion.

I'd make sure the engine is checked out, including a leakdown test, by someone other than the dealer you are buying it from to make sure that the engine is in good working order.

Most tritons like the engine high and a lot of trim, so the setup can be a little time consuming trying to get the right balance between water pressure and trim.

I LOVE MINE.  The best rough water ride I ever had was in a

TR 22.  Fishing a tournament on the Ohio river and when we came out of the creek we were fishing we encountered 5 ft rollers with some caps.  When  we got to locks there was Rangers, Allisons, Bullets, javelins, A Nitro and several other brands.  We came out of the locks about the4 middle of the pack.  It was a 17 mile run to weigh-in and we were the first boat there and DRY.
