Lowrance AND Humminbird at console?

Featured Replies

I am thinking about mounting both a Lowrance LMS-330c and a Humminbird 797 c2i at the console. I personally like the 2D sonar for the Lowrance much better then the Bird. Also I really like the side imaging of the 797. So... Has anyone or does anyone know if these two will interfere with each other with the transducers both being mounted at the transom? Thanks -Jim

I heard that some of the pros that are sponsored by Lowrance have the HB sidefinders hidden under the console so that most people and the TV cameras can't see them ;D.

I talked to a rep the other day.  Supposedly Lowrance is going to introduce its version of side finding in July.  SO if you can wait you might have the best of both worlds in one unit.

That is why I'm holding out on the side finding until then. :)

Two transducers operating at the same frequency will cross-talk no matter what brand they are and they don't have to be close together.

yep.  Even changing the ping speed only works momentarily.  Eventually the two units will sync up and in some cases, cause both to lock up.  At the very least you get annoying interference lines on the screen.

That's what I figured as far as if they were running on the same freq's... However the Side Imaging operates at 455 kHz and the Lowrance operates at 200 kHz... Which makes me believe that this may actually work. Any thought's?

While the side imaging is working at 455 kHz, the vertical 83 kHz and 200 kHz are also being transmitted. I haven't seen any instructions on how to turn off those two frequencies and only have the 455 kHz operating. You can choose to view each of those frequencies separately or on a split screen, but that is all.

They will interfere with each other. I had a 520c at the bow and a 797c2SI at the console on my boat for a while. I couldn't even read the screen on the 520 when I had the 797 on. One transducer was on the trolling motor and the other on the jackplate over 20ft. apart. I could turn the 797 off and the 520 would work but not together.

Well I guess that answers my question then. Thanks for the insight. Look for the 330c to be listed in the flea market soon.
