1997 Mercury Force 40hp (water pump question)

Featured Replies

I just bought a 1997 Bass Tracker with a 40hp Mercury force and was wondering if it is normal for it to pee out like a spitting? I was told by the owner that it has always done this and has never overheated. I did take it for a ride and it did not overheat. Water is coming out, But not like my 150 HP evinrude.

Yes it will only sprinkle out. I have a 99 Bass Tracker with a 40hp mercury force motor, and it has always only sprinkled water out the back since it was new. I modified my last year, by filling the back port with silicone, and removed the plug on top the block , fitting it with a 90 degree elbow fitting. I then connected a lenght of hose to it, and drilled a hole in the back right corner of the motor cowl to run the hose through, and securing it with a zip tie. Now my motor pees a stream out the hose like a regular Mercury motor. :o

Why did you modify it? I'm just wondering because I may do that.
