Lowrance

Featured Replies

I have a crestliner 1850 fishhawk with a lowrance x125 on the dash....(its transducer is mounted on the transom) .  I need another depth finder so that i can fish out of the bow of the boat and see the screen.  i was contemplating a lowrance 520 or 522 with gps.  I would most likely move the x125 to the bow and put my 520 at the helm.

Question number 1)  Could i use the current x125 transom transducer for the 520  (so I wouldn't have to re-run wire, etc.) and then just buy a trolling motor transducer mount with the 520, mount that on my trolling motor, and then hook that up to the x125 that i'm thinking of moving to the bow.  Are the transducers essentially the same for these 2 units?

2)  Also, can I network these 2 units, and if so, how does would this really help me?

anyone out there have this setup of something similar?  Any input would be helpful.....if not I can always contact lowrance.

They use the same ends - (Blue), and specs call for same transducer. You can confirm when ordering.

I'm amazed that you have not already visited the Lowrance website.  They offer a LOT of information on their site, plus their help board is exceptional.  Just don't try to call them and talk to a live person - unless have nothing better to do for the next hour or so.

Why go to all that trouble when you can just come here and post?

I have a X135 on the bow and a 520 at the console and they are networked. All that I really get out of it is that I can see the temp sensor when the TM is in the water on my console unit via the network. Since the X135 isn't a GPS unit, I can't get any real GPS info at the bow from the 520.

thanks guys.  I didn't think there would be much point in networking these 2 models.  I am gonna wait until next year to get a new graph, then i will move the 125x up front.  We will see what they come up with in the next year or if they come down in price/ get the bugs worked out of the new lowrance hds.

have one question.

what graph would you use the most?

most guys put the better graph at the dash and a lesser one at the bow. don't you spend more time fishing than driving? why wouldn't you want to be looking at the better graph more? I did this why when I moved up to better DF's I put the better one at the bow. then when I bought a nother good DF I put that one at the dash. I would just rather look at the better df the most. Just one man's thinking.

hpbb, i too contemplated where to put the 520 ot hd if/when I do get one.  I bass fish a lot of small lakes in michigan.  I also do some pike and walleye fishing.  For the pike and walleye i would prob. want the better graph mounted at the cockpit ( so i can see the screen and gps while trolling).  For fishing smaller lakes/bass fishing i definitely would get more use out of it on the ow......that is another reason I wondered if theye were interchangeable.....if I could swap positions of the graphs without moving transducers.  I am guessing not since one has a gps and one does not.
