St Croix Legend Glass 6'10" MM| LGS610MM

Featured Replies

Hey everyone,

I got seriously back into bass fishing this year, and been building up on various combos. I sold a guitar amp and was on a serious buying spree the past few weeks, LOL. Found some deals from members on this site, thanks Bass Resource and its membership!

On eBay, I got a bit click happy and purchased a spinning version of the Legend Glass when I meant to buy the casting version.I was going to use the rod as my square-bill rod. Since I brought the spinning version of the rod by mistake, do you think this is still the best use of this rod? I really like the look and feel of it, and want to keep it, but am second guessing myself...i'm comfortable using spinning gear, so I don't believe I still "need" the casting version of the rod.

I do have a few other spinning rods(below), wondering what your opinions are? Do I have them paired towards the techniques they would excel in? Can you think of another use for the rod in question other than squarebills?

Rapala shad raps is the first thing that comes to mind.

Really use the rod with any bait with treble hooks that doesn’t need a fast action to make it go.

I use a St Croix Premier 6'6" mod-fast glass casting rod, which unfortunately is discontinued, for square bills. You should have a similar action with your Croix spinning rod and I think you will be fine unless your using bigger plugs or in heavy cover then I think you would want a casting rod. Plus side is you can cast Rapala Shad Rap/Original Minnow lures.

I use glass. I like glass; some people don't. Glass is great for treble hooks and steady retrieves in general, whether squarebills or something else. I think the combination that you have is right near the top for productivity and useability, and I think you're going to find out that in the winds of spring, you'll like it better than the casting version.

Maybe it was an accident, but that doesn't make any difference. I think you scored, big time!

   Good luck!   jj

Thanks for the reply, maybe it was serendipity. :)
