Fred Allen Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 The only water not frozen is these rivers and I am dying to fish. I went out to the Cresant area on the Mohawk and fished 2-3 hours under the bridge from the shore and didnt catch a thing. I tried crank baits, spinning baits, jigs, spoons ect but have no idea what I am doing. Only started fishing seriously this last summer and just started figuring out the warm weather fishing and got plenty of fish. I have a lot of public access for fishing these rivers and would love to catch fish! Any tips on methods to catch them would be great. Quote
walleyecrazy Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 Fish down stream of the locks along the Mohawk and look for any current breaks. Fish those current breaks with like a 3-4” swimbait slow rolled on the bottom, or with jerkbaits. Those have been by far my most productive baits for fishing that River this time of year. Quote
Fred Allen Posted January 12, 2021 Author Posted January 12, 2021 Thanks for the advice. I have some jerk baits but I am planning on going tomorrow to Mohawk and picking up some swimbaits at Cabelas on my way to fish. I would be pretty happy to catch a fish this time of the year! Is it smart to stick to one spot for a long time or move around after no fish after a few casts? Quote
walleyecrazy Posted January 15, 2021 Posted January 15, 2021 I will usually stay at one of the locks for a couple hours. If no action I tend to move on to the next one. Quote
