What rod am I missing?

Featured Replies

Finally feel like I’ve researched enough to ask a question here.

I’ve got 3 bass rods, plan to do both bank/kayak fishing. I am looking for one more rod to fill any gap that will give me my most versatile/effective choices of techniques and also just have another rod on hand to avoid retying every time I want to try a different bait. Also open to suggestions for swapping reels or line to open more options.

Current setups are:

—Fenwick HMG Spinning 6’9” ML

Pfleuger President 30

15lb braid to 8-10lb fluoro leader

—Dobyns Fury FR704C

Daiwa Tatula Tw sv103 7.1:1
straight fluoro 16lb

—Okuma TCS 7’3”H Frog/Swimbait (TCS-C-731Ha)

Shimano SLX 8.2:1

50lb braid

Typically use the Fenwick for weightless plastics and lighter finesse techniques, as well as for throwing poppers/light treble hook topwaters. Dobyns as all around spinnerbaits/chatterbaits/swimjigs/larger keitechs(4.3-4.8)/tx rigs/jigs/buzzbaits/worms. The Okuma I just got with SLX for cheap to have a frogging rod but haven’t frogged with it yet but also could use for heavier pitching/punching.

I picked up a rover 128 and an s-waver 168 and would like to try using them as well. I’m considering getting another MH/F or MH/MF with a 6.3:1 reel andcusing braid to leader this way I could use this for the Rover and spinnerbaits/chatterbaits and if I wanted to throw the S-waver I could swap this reel to the Okuma TCS 7’3 with a mono leader and fish the S-waver on that rod with a slower ratio? Not sure if that makes sense or if I should trade my SLX for a 7.2:1 and use that on the Okuma full time for both frogs and glide/swimbaits?

Any suggestions welcome, thanks!
