scratch on gel coat

Featured Replies

Hey, folks. I was changing my trolling motor on my bass boat, and when I got the thing free, it slipped off the mount, and laid an ugly scratch across my bow. Not that bad, but on an otherwise perfect gel coat finish, I would really like it to go away. Any suggestions? I waxed it like a maniac, and it took care of it some, but it's still there. Thanks all.

If you want to hide the scratch without repairing, this will work. Sharpie fine point permanent markers come in every color in the rainbow and you can buy them at Wal-mart for a few dollars. Just color the white scratch to match the gel coat. It will stay on for six months to a year, the Sharpie will last a long time and the fine point will get down in the scratch

Someone may have a better idea but this will work.............Al

Hey, if that works, I'll run with that. The good news, is that the boat is black, and I happen to have plenty of black Sharpies! Thanks for the tip.

After filling the scratch with the black marker, fill the rest of the scratch up with clear fingernail polish.

This will involve a trip into the ladies cosmetics department at Walmart..   ;D

Alright, will do. I'm sure my wife has some clear polish somewhere. Thanks, Cart.
