HELP - Minn Kota PowerDrive Problems

Featured Replies

I have a Minn Kota 40 PowerDrive and everything seems to work fine when testing it in the garage. But when I'm on the water, the steering would work but the propeller doesn't spin. The only thing I hear is the relay clicking noise.

What's weird is once in a while the propeller would sometime spins but when I put it back in the water, it stops. Later in the day when it's nice and warm, everything seems to work fine.

Any suggestions or recommendation is appreciated. Thanks.

After launching at the lake, unbolt all the TM mounting bolts. Unplug the the foot control so it's free. Now deploy the motor. If it doesn't fall in on deployment, give it a kick, that should get it going on the way to the bottom. Make sure you're in deep enough water so that the position of the TM on the bottom of the lake doesn't interfere with other boaters.

Reload boat.

Return home and then purchase one of these.

You probably need a new footpedal. The PowerDrives are noted for having problems with the footpedals. A new one cost 60-70 buckaroos.

The odd thing is I can hear the clicking noise from the motor when I press the foot petal.  Doesn't that mean it's the motor that's not workign properly, not the foot pedal?

hhmmm, I'm not sure. All I know is that there was one on my dads boat for 7 years and the only problem we ever had was the foot pedal.  But, it may be time for a new motor. The Terrova is a sweet trolling motor with an awesome foot pedal.

"sheer pin"      take the prop off and check it.  if not do what cart7t said.
