Picking a kayak; seeking advice

Featured Replies

I've been saving up and I think I'm ready to pull the trigger on a new (to me) fishing vessel.  It'll mainly be used on rivers and small lakes around me (piedmont NC), with the occasional trip to the coast.  I'm over 200#, so I've been looking for a 12 footer just for extra stability.  I've got my options narrowed down to 2 choices, and am looking for some advice on which direction to go.

1- Vibe Seaghost 130 that can't be more than a couple of years old.  I can get this one for $500, with paddle included

2- Pescador Pro 12 that is a little older, and has the molded seat instead of an elevated one.  I can get this one for $350

I'm leaning heavily towards the Vibe, just to have the more comfortable seat, but if anyone has any advice on either I'd love to hear it.

For the current market, the Sea Ghost is a pretty good deal.  If it's the paddle that came with the kayak, it'll be a good spare, but it's pretty heavy.

I don't think I've ever seen a Pescador Pro without the framed seat.  It might have some age to it, which doesn't hurt anything.  The framed seat would drive me to the Sea Ghost, though.  They're nice general purpose kayaks.

Get the one with the better seat. You'll be glad. I have an older Pescador with the molded in, padded seat and I just bought the Pro 10 for the seat upgrade. It's much more comfy. The Vibe is also the better deal. You can still get a new Pescador for $500. The new Sea Ghost goes for $1K.

It's probably just the Pescador. The Pro debuted with a stadium seat.

I stand corrected. It looks like the Pescador 120 has gone up in price. I'd still take the one with the stadium seat.

I am not super up on the Perceptions.  I thought it might be like my old kayak, the WS Ride.  At one point they started making them with framed seats.  As worn as mine was, I just waited until my patches wouldn't hold and bought another kayak.  I agree, a framed seat is key.

I'd go with the Seaghost I had one for a year,  It was a smooth paddling kayak, not the most stable of any I've owned and hated the center counsel.......took up way too much room.

But of the two, that's the one I'd buy.

I appreciate the advice, guys.  I was leaning heavily towards the Vibe, and I think y’all just nudged me the rest of the way.
