Trim guage help

Featured Replies

I have just installed new guages on an boat that I bought. It's a 1988 Laser Bass Boat 3880 Flippin Deck. I have replaced the 175 Suzuki with my 1984 Johnson GT 150. Now I'm having trouble with wiring up the trim guage. I have it wired according to the instruction that came with the guage. I have the purple ignition wired to the I term. on the guage, the black wired to the G term, and the tan with white stripe wired to the S term. The tilt/trim from the control works the motor fine but it doesn't show on the guage. The guage reads all the way down all the time. The instructions that came with the guage sead to cross the G and S with a short wire to test the guage and I did this and the guage read all the way up. So the guage works, What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any help.

In my opinion. After a speedometer the trim gauge is the second worthless gauge on a boat.

now to your issue.

Does the potentiometer work? With the gauge hooked up can you manually turn the pot? Does the pot turn when the motor goes up and down? Did the pot come with the gauge or the motor? Maybe there is a wiring difference between Suzuki and Evinrude.

If the gauge works as you say he issue is with the pot. Maybe the wiper has lost contact with the resistor wire.
