My two Lowrance units will turn themselves off after abut 5 or 6 minutes.

Do you all think 1) I have an electrical problem or 2) the units are malfunctioning?

I have no problems with any other electrical apparatus and the batteries are new this year.

I had a pair of Garmin 160's on my boat for a few years.  When they were on together,  they would eventually sync up and then lock up at least a couple times during the day.  Operated alone they were fine.  they had a ping rate adjustment but that merely delayed or hurried the failure.  That might be the issue.

I have a Lowrance 522c. After one year it too started to shut off by itself. time might vary but usually within 5-10 minutes. It was a malfuction, sent it to Lowrance and they sent me a refurbished on that has been flawless the the last year and a half.

BTW my other Lowrance a 50X on the bow had no problems.

Not to further confuse you.... but I had this happen with both my Lowrances when the hub I used for their power got a loose fitting.  Tightened it up and I was good to go.  

The 300 and 500 series Lowrance units have been known to exhibit that trait. I read about that complaint on several web sites. Some have the opposite happen as the units will turn themselves on.

Sam, I had that problem. I run a 522cigps and a X135 on the console and a X97 up front. I tried to cut down on the wiring and run the units together to the cranking battery. They did the same thing. Once I ran a dedicated wire set for each unit with a seperate inline fuse for each I have had no further problems.

I have a 332c on my console and the original one would turn itself on.  Very frustrating to get in the boat for a short trip (without charging the batteries of course) to find that the motor won't start b/c it cut itself on and ran for a few days thus killing the cranking battery.

Sam, I would find it hard to believe that both units developed the same problem at the same time. The odds would be very, very high against this happening. Lowrance units, and most others, have a low voltage cut off feature to prevent damage to the units in low power situations.

I suggest you check all connections including the power switch and the batteries. Most likely you will find a loose wire connection or a corroded connection. Since both units are involved check only in the rear of the boat(console aft) where they share a connection. As stated before the power switch or battery are most likely areas. All of this is assumming the battery is good. If it will start the motor it is good but still could have a dirty connection for other power requirements and cause your problems. To clean the electrical connections use a wire brush, file, sandpaper or other abrasive to clean both connections until very shiney medal appears, then reconnect...........Al

My humminbird would have problems and my tilt had a hard time rising at the beginning on the year.  I clean the battery terminals and everything works great now. Check your battery.

I don't want to get left out but I have a 332c that will cut itself off all day long. I just figured it was a Lowrance trade mark. :
