Shimano Curado BFS Setup

Featured Replies

Tried the Curado BFS today for a little while at a lake.

Impressions about the reel, it is small. Feels similar to the Frame of the Curado MGL. Palms very good. It has drag sound when drag is being pulled off the spool. I wasn't sure about that, but I actually like it.. 1st reel to have this feature.

I have 10lb, 2 lb diameter Power Pro Slick 8 line. It casts lighter lures quite good, but I think I may bump up the line to 15lb, 4 lb Power Pro. The Curado BFS reels very smooth and easy to adjust for which weight lure you are using. I did cast with some 1/8 oz Crankbaits, 1/6 oz Ned rigs and some chatterbaits. All casted fine and with good distance. I found the sweetspot on the brake dial at 3. I did go to 2, but notice some spool over run. I did have one birds nest and it was my fault. I casted against the wind and did not setup the braking correctly with a light lure. One thing nice with a shallow spool reel, it is easy to pick out birds nests, or line over run. The reel feels very light, not quite as lite at my Kasking Zephyr BFS. But it's not by much. But the frame on the Curado BFS is much smaller in feel that the Zephyr BFS.

The rod I have it mounted on is an older Okuma Crappie 6'6", light, 1/16-5/16 Oz lure weight, casting rod. This rod casts lite lures very well. But I have a Shimano Sensilite 7' light casting rod arriving next week to go with the Curado BFS reel. If and when TW has their sale "again", the rod I want to eventually get is the Phenix Feather 7'1", light casting rod. It is lure rated for 1/8-3/8 oz lures. This will pair up perfectly with the Curado BFS.

Looking forward to hook up with bass or when it's fall/winter, trout fishing with this setup.

Very nice set ups.. I have shimano slx bfs, yeah i think your right about the breaks it’s sweet spot is #3 but man this reel is like a little tank, I fish canals and beaches here in Australia. I must say didn’t regret getting this reel.. I don’t pick my spinning reels anymore for this and its my first baitcaster ?
