HotMaps Platinum/Lowrance HDS Help?

Featured Replies

I recently purchased Navionics HotMaps Platinum South for my HDS5 unit. I downloaded the current update version 2.5.31.56 for the HDS5 onto a separate SD card and installed with no trouble. When I switch over from the Lowrance mapping to Navionics mapping in the menu, the lake briefly appears then disappears and only a white screen is shown with the triangle (boat) icon. I cannot seem to get the Navionics mapping to work. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. I am familiar with the menus and everything seems to be correct as far as settings go, it simply shows the map briefly then disappears to a white screen.

Has anyone seen this? Is there a setting I am unaware of?

I've emailed support but I thought some of you may know what this could be.

Thanks!

Jason

I have a 5 with the built-in maps. I've not used any Nav. cards with mine, but have you tried moving out to make sure you're not in too tight? That may be a dumb question, but it took me some time on my first trip, to figure out that for some reason it had done that. Once I pulled out, to get a bigger view, everything was cool. It has not done it since. Good luck.

With the HotMaps I've tried zooming out to 500 mi and zooming in to 500 ft. with no luck. Same white screen. This things got me stumped. Ugh.

I assume that you have told your unit to run the Navionics system. If not, here you go:

Check software update:

1. Press Menu 2X

2. go to system setup -Press enter

3. Go to software-Press enter

To see if Navionics is turned on:

1. Menu 2x

2. Go to Map Catorgies Drawn-Press enter

3. Make sure Navionics and all sub catorgies have a check or x by them

4. Exit out of all menu options

To View Naviopnics:

1. Press Menu 2x

2. Go to Map Catorgies Drawn-Press Enter

3. Make sure all Navionics and all sub catorgies have an x or a check by them

4. Go to Map Choice-Press Enter

5. Go to "Select Desired Chart", chose which file, and press Enter

6. Exit out of all menu screens and "Zoom Out" to view coverage area on the global map

7. Zoom "In" to see chart detail(At least 16 NM) and continue to Zoom IN to see future detail

This works on the later Lowrance units such as the 520 and the 522c. I don't own the HDS yet, but was told it will work for the newer units. It's worth a try.

If you still have problems, call Navionics at 800 848-5896. Do this while you have access to your unit.

Thanks Fishfordollars, I appreciate the help. I found out that I needed to download the larger full update to correct the Navionics functionality. It loaded the lake immediately after I did that. Everything seems to be in order now. Thanks again.

You are welcome. There are lots of things you can do to streamline the operation of your unit. Don't try to learn it all. Your brain may explode(LOL).

Learn the basics and then expand as you feel the need.

If you would like more shortcuts and info to help you just hollar and I will be glad to help.
