fish ranger 280 and fish master 325

Featured Replies

I was just looking for a cheap boat, and I noticed the coleman fish ranger and fish master. Anyone ever used them?

I recently purchased, as my first fishing boat, a Fish Master 325. I think it's a great platform with an engine mount and a Minn Kota trolling motor. I noticed a big difference in performance putting the battery at the front of the boat when I'm sitting in the back. Balancing the weight that way helps keep water out of the bottom of the boat.

Mine was a Craigslist find that came with a carpeted wood floor, and I really like that addition. Highly recommended. This past weekend I added swivel seats to the tops of the benches. I'm waiting for the weather to warm up here in TN before I venture out there to test those, though.

Very, very stable boat. I'm a big guy (6'3", 260lbs) and I was able to stand up and move around the boat without too much difficulty. Easy to launch. And I can keep it in the garage and still fit both cars in. That's what sold it to me.

I mostly fish it in a small, electrics only lake, though. I don't think I'd be very comfortable taking it out on the bigger lakes and definately not on the rivers.

My only complaint on it so far is the way it performs in wind. On a windy day, I was all over the lake. I eventually gave up on the trolling motor and switched to oars just to save the battery.

If you get one, get an anchor.
