Securing Trailer Light Wiring

Featured Replies

I have a c-channel trailer that I have applied heculiner to. I'm trying to avoid using the "clip on" frame/chassis clips that normally come with light kits, and avoid putting holes in the trailer.

That said, I'm considering using an exterior black caulk/silicone (to match the heculiner) and just putting a quarter/silver-dollar sized glob of it every 2 or 3 feet inside the channel, then bury the wire in the glob.

Has anyone tried doing this, or see a problem with doing it?

I have always used these. Caulk can get messy.

Can't really tell what I'm looking at there. Can you send me a link or give me a product name?

I assume that is some sort of self adhesive product??? If so, it may be a pain to install without sanding the herculiner.

Thanks

You are right about the cable tie anchors. They need a smooth surface to stay stuck. Also with new Herculiner, the evaporating solvent will break down the glue quickly. That may happen with the silicone also if it is liner is new. You may want to wait a whole summer before you try to stick something to it.

They are self adhesive cable tie mounts. I get them at lowes. I have used them on a lot of surfaces that were no smooth. My pop-up ceiling for one and my trolling motor mount for two. I have never had a problem with the coming off.

I am not sure about the evaporation Wayne P. pointed out . That could be a problem. I do know they say on in the rain they have not come off my trolling motor yet, and wet .

Thanks for clarifying. The Herculiner has been on for about 6 months now.

Another question....Do you use that product in conjunction with a zip tie? I don't see the point if the trailer light wire passes through the hole in the anchor.

Yes

Use these with zip ties.  just run the zip tie through the small opening and fasten it.  These work very well and if you do have them come off you can secure them with a bit of silicone or adhesive.

I too, use them but don't know if they will stick to the herculiner.   They are only about 1.50 for six so might as well try
