I've been floating around this forum and reading a ton over the past couple of days. I've learned a ton!

 

I grew up fishing in a small pond (bass, brim, catfish, crappie) in front of my house and on our pond on our family farm (bass, brim, catfish, crappie), with the occasional trip trout fishing in TN and NC. We would take a family trip to Alaska every year for salmon fishing (mostly bank fishing with spinning gear for all 5 species of salmon and some trout), and often times the trip to Alaska became the only time I fished all year. Needless to say, I fell out of the fishing world for about 15 years. Wow, has a lot changed in 15 years! Currently, I'm getting back into fishing and I have some old gear I want to update.

 

Here's what I currently have:

1) BPS PQR 1000H bait cast reel with 20lb braid, BPS XPC MD/F rod - use for heavy stuff, soft plastics off the bottom, and catfishing

2) Pflueger SUP 1000H bait cast reel with 10 lb mono, BPS Cranking Rod - use for crank baits, spinner, and other medium to light rigs

 

Here's what I'm wanting to get:

 

Pflueger President 30/35 (Use the 35 in Alaska for years for salmon and LOVE the reel) but I can't make up my mind which model to get. I'm leaning towards the 35 because I go to New Orleans a couple times a year for school and will do some bank fishing for reds and other fish around NOLA. I'd like rod that will do reds and bass, so I was leaning towards a medium weight rod with moderate or moderate-fast action because I like throwing weightless tubes and other light stuff around cover with a spinning rod for bass and fish in NOLA. I plan on running 15 lb Sufix braid that I got on a good deal. I'd like to keep the rod to $100 or less. I was looking at the Falcon BooCoo and HD spinning rods because they have the specs I like.

 

What all do you recommend as far as the 30/35 and for a rod? Am I on the right track?

 

Important to note: I fish mostly from the bank or a kayak. Also, I'm in northwest GA.

Ordered a President 30 and Falcon BuCoo 7' Medium Weight Moderate Action rod. Hope it's a good combo lol
