what is it, and why?

Featured Replies

It's red almost like red clay silt and it's in my fuel filter about every 3 weeks. I'm talking nasty crap. Is it my fuel or what?

There is a bacteria that grows in moist environs that is redish in color and sort of like sludge in consistency.  Not sure about its ability to proliferate in fuel although there are some bacteria and other micro organisms that can.

I'd drain your tank, treat it with a stabilizer and refill it.

Thanks Hotrod, I'm gonna do that tomorrow, now let me ask you this. Someone told me it was the ethynol in the fuel breaking down, ever heard that?

I sounds like the varnish that is left behind when gasoline evaporates. That occurrance can be avoided by using a stabilizer all the time.

I'll be using a stabilizer from now on. Appreciate the info fellas'
