Looking for help with HDS live 12" and ghost trolling

Featured Replies

Hey Guys, im new to this forum and need some advise/help? I have a new ranger rt188p and I want to put 2 HDS 12"  along with ghost 47" trolling motor. My question is , what else do I need to order to make this setup complete. Do the screens come with transducers? I want to order everything I need so I can complete the install at one, not weeks later due to not knowing what else is needed. I would welcome any information as this is my first " real power boat". Prior to this its been jon boats, etc. Basically I have 2 12" HDS and a 47" ghost on the way but i'm told I need more equipment to link them together along with a gps antenna, etc ?

The HDS's need to be hooked together by ethernet cable (special fitting cable) and the Ghost needs to be hooked up with NMEA 2000 network (You'll need a NMEA backbone, NMEA cables from each unit and the Ghost into the backbone and make sure to have Terminators at each end of the backbone, it also needs a power cable hooked to the backbone). Unless you buy the HDS units with transducers they will need them. You need to decide what type of transducers you want, such as 3in1, 2in1, structure scan, 3D structure scan, through-hull or Live Target. Mine is coming with Structure scan on transom for the console unit and Live Target for the bow. Once all is installed you can select at each unit what transducer you wish to use at any given moment (The ghost comes with an HDI transducer on its nose cone and an available 3in1 replacement nosecone for an additional $300, Active Target is attached on the trolling motor shaft(best) or by hose type clamp to the motor(eliminates switching to all three scan modes, not ideal). You don't really need a GPS antenna as the HDS units have fine antennas anyway. The Ghost has a separate electronic compass and syncs with the HDS GPS.

So the place you bought this stuff from couldn't tell you what else you needed?
