I live near a pond in Naples, Florida that has some small to medium sized Peacocks in it. This is a shallow pond and I’ve seen Peacocks close to shore in about two to three feet of water above a grassy bottom. Various Rapalas and Rat-L-Traps have been recommended in this forum, but I think these might not would work very well in such shallow water with weedy bottom. I’m thinking that for my situation I might have some success using Zoom Super Flukes soft plastic baits or maybe small crappie jigs.  I would appreciate any advice about this plan plus any alternative suggestions for catching these fish in shallow water.

In addition to those, Spook and other walking topwaters, jerkbaits. Look on YouTube for peacock fishing. I fished for these with a guide once. His advice was to keep the bait moving even if they miss. He said if you stop the bait, they'll just turn away from it. We caught the biggest of the day on live shiners.

Jerk baits will work especially, if you can get them to suspend above the grass so you have no fouling issues. Crappie jigs work extremely well, since they are small, the peas have no issues ingesting them and the hooks are sharp.

When fishing from the bank in south Florida treble hooks are not a wise choice in most cases.  I have found a 4” Senko type bait weightless works well on Peas as long as you keep it moving.  I Texas rig it so weeds are not a problem.  I have caught hundreds on this little bait.  Just keep it moving fast and jerking it.  Watermelon red is my fav color.

In my very limited experience small swim baits like 3-4” kietech easy shiners on weedless hooks have worked well.
