Hello everyone, what do yall think about the Hummingbird 788ci? i am looking to maybe pick up two of them for the console and front of my boat since i cant afford the 798

It's the same unit as the 798ci SI without the SI capability.

You won't be dissappointed with your choice. It does have the highest resolution screen in the LCR industry. With the internal GPS antenna, installation is easy. When you get them, leave the transducer for at least one of them in it's package and exchange it for a trolling motor transducer. If you are going to do a shoot-thru transducer for the console unit, exhange the other one for the puck type with the remote temp sensor.

also, can i store waypoints on the gps that comes with the unit.  and does the unit have an okay mappack or are the maps bad?

Call Humminbird and tell them that is what you want to do. Some suppliers will do it when you purchase the units.

ok thanks for the help wayne

Any GPS units store waypoints in their internal memory. The 788 has a dual SD card reader for adding Navionics cards and blank SD cards for computer waypoint management and software upgrades. You can save screen shots with that unit also.

The built-in uni-map has some bottom contours on a few bodies of water but is VERY limited. You may want to add the Navionics Hotmaps Premium software for your region at some point.

Another note, when you register your purchase, you will get a free download of Humminbird PC which is the computer based waypoint management tool and any current unit software upgrades.
