Stearing Cable

Featured Replies

I have a 1991 Cajun 162Z and was wondering if anyone has ever had any dealings with removing the steering cable? I can figure out how to get it off the motor but under the steering wheel is what I cant figure out.

You've probably got a rotary style Teleflex brand system.  It's been the most common in the industry for years.

As old as that boat is, your best bet is to change both cable and helm as the helm is probably a bit sloppy due to age.  A single cable complete system is not real expensive and not too terribly hard to replace.

Go to the Teleflex web site and then to the mechanical steering page. There is a diagram of the parts. It looks like 4 screws are removed to separate the rack from the pinion housing. See if that matches what you have.

I appreciate the help I got it off under the console but I cant get it to slide out of the motor. I got it all the way out but about an inch and then it sticks. Where would be a good place to order one? Thanks for the help
