Just picked up one of these Pelican Bassraider 8E boats....It has a plug up front for electronics,  I was wondering how to run a trolling motor and a fish finder off of one plug?  or is that a bad idea?

How many prongs on the plug? How many batteries are you using? Post pic of plug would help.

Not really a good idea electronics sometimes can pick up noise (interference) from the trolling motor if they are run off of the same battery. I know in a boat that small room is a concern,if you have the room you may want to pick up a small motorcycle battery or a lawn tractor battery just to run you fish finder just make sure you fuse the positive wire with a 3-amp in-line fuse as close to the battery as possible just in case there is a short. Just my two cents.

Turtle posted a pic of his raider with a finder/motor set up sometime in January. He pm'd me with a description but I'm a little slow picking up exactly how he did it. Maybe if he reads this he'll post a diagram.

From what I recall, he built a console, the plug from the front of the boat is wired to the console and from there it splits, one lead to the motor, the other to the finder.

My plan is to buy a male to fit the boat's receptacle and from there to a stud/wing nut onto which I can attache the motor and finder leads.

As tennwalkinghorse points out, make sure you fuse the finder lead. I run them both from the same battery, have not had any interference yet, knock on wood.

for those that are curious on how Turtle has his setup with his homemade console, he is gonna help us out here as soon as he can....He has his hands full with a few things but he going to try and possibly get some pics here and explain how he did it.
