Good cheap depth finder...

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I'm looking into getting a depth/fish finder for my birthday this year.. I fish mainly out of a 9' pond prowler, but occasionally borrow a buddies john boat. Portability is a must, as I'll have to take it off my boat everytime I go out since I don't keep it at my house. The main lake I fish goes to around 60 ft deep from what I hear from some of the older folks around here. I'd like to find some of these spots.

I really just want the depth finder option to explore my home lake better, but having a fish finder would also be beneficial once I learn how to use it.

What are the best options under maybe $150 at the most? Not looking for anything fancy, just something portable that will tell me the depth I'm in, and maybe something I could use later on and on unfamiliar lakes.

Humminbird makes this...

That one is $130.  Theres a few other models that are a little more expensive.  Probably would work for you since you've got a boat you can mount it on.  Pop it off and switch it to the other boat when you need to.

That's a cool little gadget.
