Livewell Advice

Featured Replies

Last year I got myself a old 18' 1987ish bass tracker for $500. The boat was in great shape and has proven itself worthy a face lift. The guy who had it before me had redid the deck and layout of everything and this included welding off the live well.

I have never seen a livewell before (was a bank fisher before I got this boat) so I have no idea how they work. Cabelas has a nice livewell that you can put into your boat or I could figure out how this one works and fix it up. Which would be the best option for me and if I was to try and fix up the preexisting livewell what would be the best way to go about this?

Thanks for any advice any of you can give!

Are you talking about making a fixed livewell using a compartment in the boat or utilizing a cooler that would be removable?

Currently the livewell I do have is fixed to the boat, it is metal and welded in. So my first thought is to fix it up. However if I was to remove it I was thinking about replacing it with one of Cabela's Dry-Stor/Livewells removable ones that would mostly be in the boat at all times but could be removed if needed to be.

Speaking of livewells, what is a two pump livewell system?  Is it just what it say's a livewell with two water in pumps incase one fails?

Pump in, pump out.

Here is a nice primer, hope it helps.

Holy nice! That helps me understand the inner workings of a livewell. Thanks a lot for that!
