Looking at buying a trolling motor.  Mostly to fish a local reservoir with fairly decent current.  Will also be taking it on some local lakes.

My car cannot tow more than 1,000 and I do not own a boat but I decided to do this and buy a good battery so I don't have to pay 40 - 50 dollars when I rent for a day and instead just 10 for the jon itself.  Will end up paying for itself within a trip.

Any advice?  I know to look for a transom mount as it will be used for a jon.  I don't know what thrust or what shaft length to get.

I really like the Minn Kota Endura.  It is in my price range, seems like it is built tough and is good quality from what I understand.  Plus most I have talked to said Minn Kota's are a great TM.

Any advice guys?

Also what kind of battery would you guys pair with it?  I want to make sure I don't get out on the water and run out of power before I get back to the launch.  I know to keep oars in at all times in case the battery does die and to keep a life jacket and all that stuff.  Been out plenty just trying to get myself some boat stuff so I can save money in the long run and not fish from shore much anymore.

I really like m.k. trolling motors..i would get the most thrust u can afford if you are going to be in current..  the shaft length depends on boat, you can get the longer one if in doubt..i like interstate marine batteries as well.. also you can cut a piece of pvc pipe to a desired length to make an extension handle.. you can snug it with electrical tape around the t.m. handle,and can always be removed so you can stand up and fish back by the transom if the boat permits.

I've had an Endura for a long time now and literally beat the heck out of it on a flat back canoe. I use a Walmart battery. You should have no problems with that choice.
