Turkeyfoot Lake Fishing

Featured Replies

Looking to surprise my husband with a long weekend fishing trip for his retirement. Happened upon Turkeyfoot Lake in my searches. He leans more to  small mouth bass fishing and used to do annual trips to Canada until the Covid restrictions. Can anyone tell me if Turkeyfoot Lake would be a good destination to try?  Is it busy with skiers and pleasure boaters more than a fishing lake?  And any idea how many miles large it is?

I don't know where you live but I have fished Turkey foot lake in North East Ohio.  I have friends that live on the lake and are partner owners of the Turkey Foot Golf Course.  I have fished a bunch from their dock, and from the course with their permission.  Lots of pad fields all around the lake and the W/M Red Senko has produced nicely around the pad fields.

There is a nice ramp at the park adjacent to the main lake.  Lots of miles of connecting canals.  Water traffic can be difficult at times.

Very very busy lake for pleasure boating. Largemouth bass only I believe and other species, but no smallmouth. I would take a look at lakes in Michigan (like Lake St. Claire) if possible or Lake Erie near the Sandusky or Buffalo NY areas. They are crazy good smallmouth fisheries and have guides that can take you out to the right spots.

Super busy for pleasure boaters, the only good thing about it is they only have certain hours and an area in the lake to go full speed.  All the other time it is idle only!
