Livewell maintnence?

Featured Replies

So I bought my first boat last year and when I bought it, the livewell needed a new pump and a new drainage hose. Since I havent needed the livewell the past year, I just never got around to fixing it. But now I have fixed it and would hope to use it. My only concern is, that the boat was sitting for years ( its a 1980 Bass Tracker ), im  worried about containments of any kind that have got in there over the years, is there anything I should do before sacrificing the life of fish in it? IS there any kind of cleaning or soaking I should do? And like the boat, the inside of the livewell is also aluminum. Thanks

Suggestions:

Fill well with water and make sure it drains when you put the switch on empty.

Put hose in drain and flush it softly with runnnig water. Make sure the water is draining out of the system.

Put hose in drain hole at rear of boat and flush it softly.

I don't use any soap or other products when cleaning the well. I use paper towels and a hose to clean the well.

After draining the well, take boat on water to make sure the well and aerator pumps work.

If you are still concerned, bring boat to a Tracker dealer so they can check out the system.  :)
