Have a couple of Everstart Marine Maxx group 29s that I use for running my trolling motor, but by looking at them it appears that the caps don't pull off since they are recessed into the battery, are they a VRLA battery or can I try to pry the recessed cell tops off to check fluid level? 

Everstarts marine battery's are maintenance free you never need to take the caps off. It will void the warranty.

Nope. The caps come off and not removing on a regular basis to check water level will make sure that you will have to take advantage of the warranty. They are a standard lead-acid flooded cell battery.

Yep ... Burley is right they come off to check.

Heck .... one of mine came off real nice when the battery blew up !!!! Touched the trolling motor pedal one morning and BLAMO !! That will wake you up !!

Makes me love my AGM battery more, its a major pain removing those HEAVY batteries from trays so I can pop the caps, but for the $$$ I should not be complaining. 

I did not know that. I will check the level in mine this weekend. I have 2 of them in my boat. Thanks guys.

Walmart must have changed there warranty and battery since i stopped working their(6 months ago)...

What warranty? I carried one back the other day and they were going to give me $9 off a new one. They told me that the new trolling motor batteries didn't have warranty anymore. I went elsewhere and got a couple of Douglas batteries. :-?

When i worked at Walmart there was a three year warranty on Everstart max marine battery's. They throw it on there tester if theres a bad cell they will replace it.

Bought my batteries back in 07/2008 and at that time it was an 18 month replacement and up to 24 month prorate. 

I know some guys really "abused" the system at Wal-Mart by taking back perfectly good batteries right as they were about to eclipse the no questions asked warranty period, but I figure its not worth the trouble.  I think Wal-Mart wised up and stopped it.  By the way Johnson Control's makes my Everstart Marine Maxx.

Everstarts have never had a three year warranty.  I've been using the Maxx Marine batteries for four years and they have always had an 18 month free replacement warranty.
