MinnKota Trolling motor Mounting Question

Featured Replies

I bought a new MinnKota Maxxum 70# for my boat . I had to mount it on the right side of my Bow instead of the normal left side. The problem is when the trolling motor is deployed , the cable coming out of the head is to the outside of the boat. Is there a way to adjust this so it will come down the center of the boat like it would if it was mounted on the left side.

Loosen the knurled knob on the mount and rotate the shaft/head until it is where you want it and tighten the knob.........Al

If you are talking about the knob that adjust the height , I tried that. If i move it till my cable comes out to the left. (towards the center of the boat) This also changes the foot position on my pedal. I still want the pedal to be level when going straight ahead with the cable going out to the left.

I hope I explained that well enough , I hope you mean something else.

Are you talking about the pedal laying flat on the deck of the boat? The material covering the cables coming out of the head and going to the foot pedal tends to be a little stiff when the motor is new. Try to make sure the cables are straight and set pedal where you want it. It may take couple of times using for it to become limber enough for the foot pedal to set flat. Hope this helps

When I say pedal flat , I mean flat is straight ahead foward turns right , heel back turns left. With the trolling motor mounted on the right side of the bow the cable coming out of the head is coming out of the right side instead of coming out the left side which would make it come down the center.

Rotated that far will have your foot position messed up. I looked in my MK "manual" and the is no directions on how to change the position by adjusting the gears in the head. I believe I have read somewhere that you can do this. I would call MK service and ask them. You may need to take it to a MK service center, but I think it can be adjusted. Good luck.

sage- you can take apart some Motorguides and make the correction being talked about(adjusting gears) but I'm not sure about MKs'. I would suggest following K_Mac's advice and contact MK or one of their repair facilities...............Al

Talked to a lady from Minnkota she told me how to change it , 10 minutes later I had it fixed. You have to back the tension screw off on the foot control about 7 full turns. Next take cover off top off trolling motor head. There is a black drum where your cable go thru that is on a spline shaft. Lift the drum up off the spline. Spine the prop to where you want it . Level pedal then put drum back on spline. Pop red arrow out of cover. Screw cover back on, then snap red arrow back on pointing in the correct direction. Tighten the tension screw for the foot pedal.

Thanks For the help and suggestions

Very good. I wonder why they don't include those instructions in the manual. I like their products but the manuals could use some work.
