What types of boats are best to operate on the Toledo Bend Reservoir?

Featured Replies

Hi all!

I am new to the Toledo Bend Area and I am building on the Texas side in the Hemphill/Milam area. I am building on lakefront property. I am a Baton Rouge, LA native and mostly spent my time fishing offshore out of Grand Isle and Port Fourchon. This is a new experience for me. Given that, I am accustomed to the deep V and Fiberglass boat line. However, I have been told that Toledo is known for its stumps that hide really close to the shore level. Some locals have recommended an aluminum frame, where others have told me any boat is fine as long as it is over 20 ft long to keep a lid on choppy waters. What is everyone's preference? i.e. Bay boat(glass or aluminum), Deep V, Pontoon, Jet skis(if applicable), ski boats, runabout boats, etc.

Thanks in advance.
