New (to me) boat

Featured Replies

I sold my little aluminum boat last week. I wanted to upgrade, but wasn't sure if I would find what I was looking for very soon or not. I told my wife that if I didn't find a good used fiberglass boat soon I would just get a small john and a trolling motor so I would not be stranded for the rest of this season. Then I could try to find something next spring. I wanted something I could still take to the smaller lakes I like to fish around here, but also not be afraid to get out on some bigger waters from time to time. I also wanted more room, my last boat was really narrow, with no storage.

Well, it didn't take very long to find it - it is a 95 Skeeter SS 140. 17' 6", Dual Console, 115 hp Force Outboard.

The best thing is that I only had to spend $600 over what I sold my Aluminum boat for! I wasn't sure about the Dual console, but the deck is still huge compared to what I was used to.

I have had it on the water twice, it runs and rides great, and is so much more stable in the water. The previous owner just babied this thing, and kept up with all the maintenance. I am really excited, I should not have to worry about trading for a while now.

I am not very experienced with running at high speeds. Driving and controlling the boat is not a problem, but not really sure how I should trim it to get the best performance.

The electronics suck, so I need to upgrade them, but that is about all it needs right now.

Congrats on the boat!  I want to upgrade from my tinboat to a smaller glass boat that would fit in my 8ft wide garage doorway.  Was looking hard at the SS 140.  How wide is the trailer?  I personally like the DC.

Not sure on the trailer, I can measure at lunch and let you know.  I think I like the DC more now that I have fished out of it, I was just afraid it would take up too much space, but it really doesn't.

Sweet!!!!  Now  get out and fish her!!

Thanks for the info.  I re-measured my garage and unfortunately it's roughly only 93" wide.  Enough of my rainy day.  Enjoy that Skeeter!

Thanks guys, I know I will have a lot of fun in it.  I may have as much fun just riding around in the boat as I do fishing (for a while anyway).  Oh and Southflbass- Stay away - lol.
