Shimano Spool Question

Featured Replies

I am considering picking up the new jdm engetsu bb 101 pg. The only issue I'm having is the stock spool is super shallow, I have a 16 engetsu that came with a super shallow spool as well, but the 71 curado spool fit into it just fine, so that was the fix.  I can't seem to tell what if any would be the equivalent frame reel in the U.S. market, by looking at the pictures I'm thinking maybe the curado 151, but i'm not sure. I pasted the link to the reel below. If anyone knows of a deeper spool that would fit, or can tell what is the usdm equivalent that I could just buy the spool from Shimano, please chime in. Thanks in advance.

I could be wrong, but this one doesn't seem to have a braking system, only tension knob/mechanical brake.  So to change spool, you'll need to change palm side plate as well if you want a braking system. If you don't want that, then the closest frame/spool would be SLX I think.

I think you're right about the brakes, I totally didn't realize that. The previous version had svs, this one has no mention of the braking system. This might not be worth the trouble. Thanks for pointing that out.

I could be wrong but i think the new engetsu is just for jigging. Hence the gaint lever for the spool tension.

I have two of the old model as well. Pretty much a fancier curado 70.

This is the Engetsu with the giant lever

The reel I am interested in is the Engetsu BB

I believe these are 2 different reels, but I don't know what type of braking sysyetm it has, so between the spool replacement and possible side plate replacement, this may not be worth the effort. I am always on the lookout for a unicorn small, comfortable low gear ratio lefty casting reel, I recently picked up the Steez A cray cranker in lefty, I'm thinking that may be what i'm looking for.
