Crawdad Mods

I have a crawdad jon boat. It has a wood floor that needs to be replaced. So, I'm thinkin about a new floor & carpet. Then I'd like to remove the crossbar that the seats sit on & replacing it with a pedestal & swivel seat. Has anyone ever done this? Will it effect the boat in any way?

Yes you can do both, but don't recommend the pedestal seat. I would plywood the bench and add a rotating fold up seat instead. The boat needs the support.

checkout tiboats.net lots of good info over there, little hard to find info for the crawdad but its there. i've been kicking this idea around for a while myself. but i think i've made a decision skin the tops with plywood or 5/4 pine (drill a couple holes if u want, hole for pliers and a beverage holder) and the use a 7" wise economy pedastal on top of the bench, then swivel, then seat.

pic of kinda what i'm talking about

Yes, that's what I have on the crawdad now. But, that cross bar makes it hard to turn around & move around the boat.

The best idea I can give you is that go to {www.tinboats.net } also you can check out { www.themarinedoctor.com } you can also check out YouTube and type in rebuild fiberglass crawdad boat or convert boats. Once you get the boat floor and seats removed, flip the boat over and check the hull for cracks and any type of fracture in the bottom and check the transom for flexablity. Good luck, when you go to Tin Boats & Marine Doctor you will have to join up, it's free. Check out other photos of the finished products.
