I just sold my house and with the ok from the wife I am in the market for a boat. I will have around 15.5k to spend. I went today and price a new tracker 175 with a Merc 60 for 15.5k with a 5 year warranty on the motor. I am wondering if I should buy new or look for a good used fiberglass boat. 

I am thinking that the pros of buying the new boat are that I know that it hasn't been mistreated and that I have the peace of mind of a 5 year warranty.

The pros of looking for a good used boat is that I am not loosing money off the lot and that I can get more boat for the money.  Also I have heard bad things about BPS's services on a boat.  The thing that worries me about looking used is driving a distance to see a boat that looked good only to find out that its garbage.  So that being said, what advice do you guys have.

I'm really not qualified to give boat buying advice. However, the one thing in your post that stood out was that you'd buy a used fiberglass if you don't get the new Tracker.

How badly do you want fiberglass? If you bought the new Tracker would you be always second-guessing yourself for not getting a fiberglass? If the answer is yes, then you've answered your own question.

If you take your time, you can find an awesome fiberglass boat for 15k and i mean an awesome 1-4 year old boat.

If you're afraid of having your *** handed to you if you buy used , you're probably better off buying new.

I'm not mechanically inclined when it comes to working on motors or any thing else on a boat. So I went with new.  the warranty is like a nice warm blanket.

If you buy used spend the extra dollars to have it checked out by a qualified tech. If you don't it's your own fault. Best money you will ever spend.

If the seller agrees to let you have the boat inspected chances are it's a decent boat. If he balks just thank him and walk away.
