Dobyns Champ XP 763C comparison question?

Featured Replies

Those of you with extensive Dobyns and Powell Rods experience please feel free to chime in. Thinking of going a different direction than the Dobyns KD744 I have. Snice I already have a DX744 I was thinking of selling the KD744 (or gifting it to my little brother) And going with a DC763C. Aside from the 2” extra and some more sensitivity, what would I gain going with a DC763C? Just feel like I don’t need two 4 power rods in the same length and would rather get something with a little more flex down the blank than the KD744. For what it’s worth I have a DC764C, and a Powell Endurance 765 Utility. I like the actions/tapers and powers to those both. Was also wondering how the DC763C is in action and power compared to the Powell 764C and 765C Endurance if anyone has experience with those. What’s lame is I think I used to own a DC763C and a Powell Endurance 764C at some point in time but wanted to go a little shorter rods at the time so I sold them. Go figure that now I’m getting back into a little longer rods these days…oh the cons of being a tackle-snob sometimes lmao?

I recently bought and returned a DC763C for long casting finesse jigs and small swimbaits from shore. I was expecting it to have the same tip as the 703C, but a little longer backbone, but it was a bit stiffer overall. Its more like a light flipping stick I guess. My DC734C loaded better and casted farther the same baits I was throwing with the 763. It could have been a bad day, but I wasnt willing to try again and just sent it back.

Some decent info there thanks. Do you have any experience with any of the other rods by chance?
