question about chart speed on a depthfinder and why to change it?

Featured Replies

just got a hummingbird 798ci hd sidefinder. was playing around with and saw i could change the scrolling speed of the map. why would i want to do that?

wouldnt i want the map speed to mimic the speed of the boat?

i wouldnt want to be going fast and having the map read slow? so do i just adjust it to match the speed of the boat. lil confused and probably reading too much into it. thanks for the help.

i always match speeds.  If the speeds don't match I believe you would lose detail.

You are confused. The scroll speed has nothing to do with the map movement on the GPS display. The map moves as you move no matter how fast that is. The map moves to keep the boat icon about in the middle of the screen all the time. Basically the GPS screen does not "scroll", it moves in all directions as you move in all directions.

The scroll speed sets the speed of the views on DI/SI/2D.

For the best images on SI and DI, the scroll speed should be set to the idle speed of the boat.

For 2D, the speed is whatever you like to get the bottom coverage for the speed you are going.
