What Is The Better Chip LakeMaster Or Navionics?

I will be buying a new Humminbird 898 SI and I just would like to see what you guys think is the better lake map chip, and why?

I suggest you go to a local BPS, Cabelas, Gander Mountain or other sporting goods store and compare them. This will allow you to look maps of  local lakes you will be fishing. Mapping details vary from lake to lake so you should only listen to local fishermen, not someone from Tennessee or North Carolina etc.(imho)

I work at BPS part time and we have all the chips and will load them in a display unit for customers to compare.........................Al

I have the 898 with the Navionics Platinum chip.  Never seen the Lakemaster so can't compare, but I'll tell you it has details of Kentucky Lake that I've not seen on any maps.

I have only had the navionics and I like them but, have heard that with the lakemasters on the HB units it gives you the ability to color code your depth levels therefore quickly identifying certains depths you may be targeting.  I would go for the lakemaster just for that option.

Mine does the same thing with the Navionics.  I can select the depth I'm looking for and it color codes all water of that depth. 8-)

The best one for you is the one that has the bodies of water that you are interested in.

You can go to their websites and check the list to see which one does.

Navionics is awesome and if you find one on ebay it is very reasonable. You will NOT be disappointed.

The Lakemaster chips for WI are excellent.  I have used Navionics as well and they work fine but Lakemaster takes it to another level.  The ability to adjust the contours to match the lake level on the Humminbird is really nice.  Navionics does offer more coverage though.  If you travel to other states Navionics might be a better choice.  It would be best to compare them somewhere.
