GLoomis GCX MBR 843C

Featured Replies

Bought a GCX MBR 843C rod a year ago as my foray into the GLoomis world.  Honestly, I have not used it much.  Feels stiff.

I have 10 or so St Croix / Mojo Bass poles.  And, I want to trade them in for better stuff.

What is the sweetspot for using the GCX MBR 843C?  I mainly have caught my good fish bank fishing ponds using a heavy mojo glass and chatterbait with 25lb Sunline Super Mono.  I have a kayak too.  Tried the MBR with a chatterbait and missed some fish so I put it down.  Missed one big fish I lost at shoreline with the MBR.  Nailed some big fish with the mojo glass.  But, I hate how heavy the glass is on my old arms and the strike feels like I am holding wet spaghetti.

I really want to give the GCX a fair shot and I have about a month left to cast.

So, what reel ratio, line, and lure would you pair with the GCX MBR for late Fall fishing in Northern Illinois from the bank?

I have a Curado MGL 7.4, 12lb Suffix Advance Mono, and a 1/2 ounce Z-man sling blade with trailer on it right now.

I don't see an issue here. Loomis 843 MBR rods are great do all tapers. Great with jigs/T-rigs, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, swim jigs....you name it. Your reel, line combo seems great.

I have one paired with 18 Bantam MGL HG, 14 lb. sniper and love using it with 3/8 oz. chatter bait mini max.

I understand it feels a little stiff, but it feels great when you put it to work and hook up a fish.
