Garmin UHD vs UHD2?

Featured Replies

Anyone have specific experience with the UHD vs UHD2 on FFS? I've been putting off pulling the livescope trigger all year, and it's about to be time. Pretty much decided to just do the garmin, with a -34 transducer.

The UHD2 9" increased the resolution to 1024x600 pixels over the UHD 9" which was 800x480 which will give a decent increase in sharpness. The 7" units overall should be fairly similar with an updated interface.

The older models have all sorts of sales going right now. I decided to go for more pixels and got a deal on a GPSMap 943xsv that will barely run more than a UHD2 93sv would currently (WestMarine special plus $200 in store credits towards I can use towards the transducer).

If you want to spend the money, the Gpsmap or Echomap ultras (10 and 12”) models will get you more resolution, but at a cost. The Gpsmap also has a faster processor and the most refined interface on the market - if you change some settings on the fly say frequency it makes it real quick.

The Echomap is still a solid unit as well and will largely do the job. My old 93sv was fine I am only upgrading it because I’ll likely get a fair return selling it with my kayak as the transducer is already mounted and can get the newer model in return and got a sweet deal on the Gpsmap 943xsv so I decided to go all out.
