fireline crystal on spinning reels

Featured Replies

ok i got a new spinning rod/reel for my bday and i put some fireline crystal on it.  i wasnt all that pleased with it.  The line didnt seem to sit on the reel right idk if its because im using it on a spinning reel so im gonna try it on one of my bait casters to see if it will hold the line tighter and if it will sit on the reel better.

but has anyone else had this problem with fireline crystal?

i tried it, it was OK.  My wife likes it on her spinning reels.  I have since removed it and went with Yo Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft.  Works great on spinning reels.

Had you previously tried Fireline in another color? I've used smoke-colored Fireline on a spinning reel for three years and have been satisfied. I haven't tried crystal, but someone said it behaved exactly like other colors, so if that is indeed true, then I would expect it to perform OK on my reel.

Also, when you say it didn't sit on the reel right, exactly what was it doing?

when ever i would cast the line remaining on the reel looked strange and uneven almost like it was digging down this would sometimes when i would cast it would hit like almost sticky points and stop my cast.  it was weird and kind of hard to explain.  also the line didnt seem to want to hold tight to the reel it almost wanted to come off.

Couple of points:

1) Don't tie it directly to your spool, it might slip. Use backing, such as cheap monofilament. I do that and use only 50-60 yards of the Fireline, saves money and I don't need more than that to fish with.

2) I can't cast quite as far with the Fireline as with mono. It does seem to dig in a little bit, but never hits a sticky point and stops the cast. It just doesn't seem to flow off the spool as smoothly as mono.
