Berkley Nessie 5

Featured Replies

Good evening everyone,

I recently tried the berkley 5. I used my medium action shimano intenza with 12 pound fluorocarbon. I really liked how good it looked but once I started to reel it in not much action there. So I started to work it like twitch bait/walking bait. This brought the bait alive once I did this it produced 3 missed strikes off a rock ledge. I expected this considering how the hook is under the belly. So my over all impression is maybe better action in the heavier style baits. Or add a nail weight to it to get it down a little.  It sure has potential to be a fish catcher but I was thinking I would just fish a twitch reaper and probably get better hook ups and probably just as good results.  What do you guys think that have tried this bait do you like it.  It’s ok but I was thinking I probably could catch just as much off jerkbaits and twitch baits

Where the Nessie really shines is with its 7" and 9" versions, heard some reviews about the 5"s not having much action. And the jerkbait would probably be a better choice than the 5, not really sure why they would make a glide bait that small anyways.

But even the bigger ones have hookup issues too, depending how the bass grabs it.
