Does anybody use one of these for a deep crank setup? Just curious how y’all like them. They’re on sale right now for $79 and thinking about snagging one for my new deep crank rig (5XD-6XD). Probably in 5.6:1

I bought that exact for the rare occasions I deep crank. Works great. If I were to deep crank more often I’d probably buy a purpose-built reel for it, but this one works perfectly well. 

That reel will work well for what you said you wanted it for. My preference is a 6 speed model so I can do multiple things with it . I have used a 5 speed before and it worked really well. But I feel like the small difference in inches per turn helps me keep up with the fish better. 

Haven't used a 5 speed before but I've got the 6.8 on my rod that I use for deep cranks and bladed jigs and have been happy with it.

They are great reels, but wait a bit more. They went on sale alot last spring-summer at a few places around $66.

 

Next step up from them is the BB1 Pro, but thats when you want to take cranking to a new level.
